I am Lee Powers, Executive producer/Gofer and indispensable member of the Brocast team, and brand new “Wild Card” blogger! I view myself as the Martin Riggs (Lethal Weapon reference people) of this blog: dangerous, on the edge, beautifully mulleted, and effective at what I do. Those suits at BroCast don’t know what they did handing me the keys to their shiny new blog.
I’m generally going to be blogging about whatever I want, be it entertainment (go see Pain & Gain), sports (mostly chronicling the pain that is being a New York Jets fan), or Dogs wearing people clothes (like this dog here: http://mensweardog.tumblr.com/).
Now onto blogging. Let’s talk Gay Marriage (because no one is talking about that right now, amirite?).
Rhode Island became the 10th state of the union to legalize Gay Marriage on Thursday (Insert Providence joke [insert joke about the word ‘insertion’ in a gay marriage article here]). It’s one more step in the slow, inexorable march towards legal acceptance of Gay Marriage in America. Sure, it’s in New England, one of the most Gay-friendly areas of The United States, but a win is a win. Proponents of Gay Marriage will frame this as a great step forward for civil rights, and point to all of the revenue Rhode Island will receive from Gay Marriages (it seems a little offensive to assume Gay Marriages will be expensive, over the top affairs, but whatever). Opponents of Gay Marriage will frame this as one more step in our slow inexorable slide into moral turpitude and legalizing murder. Seriously, someone out there believes that Gay Marriage puts our country one step away from some bizarre dystopian murder filled future:
“It’s ultimately about changing the culture of the entire country; it inevitably will lead to teaching our public school kids that gay marriage is a perfectly fine alternative and no different than traditional marriage.
There is also a very slippery slope leading to other alternative relationships and the unconstitutionality of any law based on morality. Think about polygamy, bestiality, and perhaps even murder.” – Michael Reagan (http://www.irontontribune.com/2013/04/02/churches-time-to-fight-back/)
God forbid this leads to teaching acceptance and tolerance in our schools! Michael Reagan, by the way, is the noted Family values advocate who is being sued for fraud for profiteering from his presidential father’s legacy (http://northhollywood.patch.com/articles/ronald-reagan-s-adopted-son-sued-for-fraud). This is also the same Michael Reagan who chose to belittle NBA player Jason Collins for coming out of the closet (http://www.cagle.com/2013/05/out-of-the-closet-and-into-identity-politics/) How dare that homosexual be proud of his identity, why wont he just go back into the closet and stop bothering us? I don’t want to know about a players’ background, because a minority playing professional sports has NEVER impacted society (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/42_%28film%29). But enough about a man who preaches the sanctity of marriage, but whose first marriage was shorter than Lisa Marie Presley’s marriage to Michael Jackson.
Gay Marriage is coming
get used to it .
Wow, blogging is harder than I expected. I should probably research my next post, and maybe focus up a little more. Hopefully nobody reads this post because it’s a Friday. Tweet what you want us to write about @BroCastNYC I promise I have a better understanding of Twitter than Paul.
